![]() The three swept in from a helicopter and started sprinting towards our poor agents, as Mission Command yelled about how we “couldn’t take them on. Again, we’re talking outnumbered, outgunned, and about to be overrun. After blowing up the Unification statue we came under attack from two more humanoid robots and a massive muscle-monster gorilla-alien which appeared to have no skin. Right down to the “GET TO DA CHOPPAH” ending. I sort of enjoyed this aspect, as it gave previously unremarkable actions a more cinematic feel- XCOM might at its heart be a dry tactics game, but XCOM 2 looks like an action movie. One side note about the statue exploding: Firaxis seems to have put a larger emphasis on conveying story in XCOM 2, dropping in a number of short cutscene-esque asides during our demo. High-risk, high-reward.įrom there, the demo pretty much played out as expected-people moved forward, aliens pushed back, both sides got some lucky shots in, the statue exploded, and it was time for evac. When you fight the assassin, there is no point in taking cover because she always strikes with her sword. The Chosen also show how flexible XCOM’s combat spaces can be. the ending of XCOM 2, forcing most of us fans to believe we will get some reincarnation. XCOM 2 does a great job of making you care about your troops, and just when you’ve forged that attachment, the Chosen teleport in and steal your precious heroes away. Closing in, she swept at the snake-alien with a knife and killed it in one hit. Its best to play Enemy Unknown (EU) before attempting XCOM 2. One of our agents leapt out of cover, sprinting towards the snake-alien in what was either the bravest or stupidest move of the day. Another new addition: Ultra-powerful melee attacks.
